United States Mint Acting Director Ventris C. Gibson: Biography and Official Photo

Ventris C. Gibson has been named acting director of the United States Mint. Attached is her official photo and her bio is below. This information is also available here.

Ms. Gibson is the first African American woman to run the mint. A US Navy veteran with decades of federal leadership experience, Ms. Gibson joined the Mint from the District of Columbia government where she served as the director of human resources for the Washington DC Human Resources Department. In that capacity, Ms. Gibson was responsible for the management and delivery of human capital programs and services for nearly 37,000 employees. Ms. Gibson previously served as Assistant Assistant Secretary for Human Resources for the U.S. Department of Health. In this role she was responsible for the development, formulation and implementation of the department-wide personnel policy, plans and programs.

Ms. Gibson’s career in the federal government has included leadership roles in the Federal Aviation Administration, where she was Assistant Administrator for Human Resources, and in the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) as Assistant Assistant Secretary for Human Resources and its first Assistant Assistant Secretary for Resolution Management. Ms. Gibson was the VA’s senior veteran, leading human resources management and civil rights programs that affect 230,000 employees.

With a career spanning more than 40 years in executive and professional positions in human resources, Ms. Gibson has received numerous awards and accolades. She has received the Exceptional and Meritorious Service Awards, the FAA Manager Association’s Leadership Award, the National Hispanic Coalition’s President’s Award, and the Northern New Jersey Metropolitan Area’s prestigious Woman of the Year.

A graduate of the Federal Executive Institute, Executive Technique, and Aspen Institute, Ms. Gibson attended University College at the University of Maryland. Ms. Gibson has three children, four grandchildren, and two Golden Retrievers.
