NGC Certified Russian Coin Exceeds $ 500,000 in SINCONA November Sale

A Russian coin led a group of 10 rarities certified by the Numismatic Guaranty Company (NGC), which achieved prices of over 100,000 US dollars in two auctions by the renowned Swiss auction house SINCONA. Auction 71 and Auction 73 took place from November 21 to 23, 2021.

A Russia 1808CNB OT Russia 1/4 ruble graded NGC MS 61 (auction 71, lot 162) fetched CHF 468,000 (approx. $ 504,000). The obverse of this incredibly rare coin, minted under Emperor Alexander I, features the two-headed eagle, a symbol that has been used in Russian heraldry for centuries.

Another particularly rare coin in the auction was a China 1921 gold dollar with the rating NGC MS 63 (auction 73, lot 1060). It slightly exceeded its starting price of CHF 30,000 and realized CHF 348,000 (approx. $ 374,000). The obverse depicts President Hsu Shih-chang, the only civilian to rule during the Chinese warlord era in the 1910s and 1920s.

  • a Russia 1716 ducat valued NGC MS 61 (auction 71, lot 11), which achieved CHF 168,000 (approx. $ 181,000)
  • a Russia 1716 Ducat, valued at NGC XF 45 (auction 71, lot 12), which fetched CHF 156,000 (approx. $ 168,000)
  • an Italy 1926R 100 Lire valued NGC MS 66 (auction 73, lot 1452), which fetched CHF 150,000 (approx. $ 161,000)
  • a Russia 1739 ducat, valued at NGC AU 53 (auction 71, lot 72), which fetched CHF 144,000 (approx. $ 155,000)
  • a Russia 1727 2 rubles Peter II – without hair tie rated NGC MS 61+ (Auction 71, lot 45), which fetched CHF 132,000 (approx. $ 142,000)
  • a Russia 1836CNB 6 rubles rated NGC PF 64+ (Auction 71, lot 193), which fetched CHF 120,000 (approx. $ 129,000)
