2021 American Innovation $ 1 Coin Proof Set Released

As the name suggests, every coin is of proof quality. This finish is preferred by many collectors because of its sharp relief and a mirror-like background with matte foregrounds.

“The 2021 American Innovation $ 1 Coin Proof Set contains four stunning coins encased in a clear plastic lens in beautifully designed packaging,” states the US Mint’s online store page dedicated to the product.

Descriptions of the Innovation Dollars are below:

  • New Hampshire – honors Ralph Bear invented the first home video game console
  • Virginia – honors the marvel of engineering, the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel
  • New York – shows the 363 mile long Erie Canal
  • North Carolina – represents the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, the first public college in the United States

These themes are shown on the reverse of the coin (tail side). The front (top) has a common image for all program versions and shows the Statue of Liberty.

The US Mint’s American Innovation ™ 1-Coin Program launched in 2018. There was only one introductory coin that year, bearing the signature of President George Washington, who issued the first US patent. Since then, and until the program ends in 2032, four new designs have appeared annually, each recognizing innovations from a different state, the District of Columbia and the five US territories.

Order, price and limits

The American Innovation $ 1 Coin Proof Set 2021 is available directly from the US Mint through their online American Innovation product store.

Each sells for $ 24 with no published circulation, budget, or order limits.

All four coins in the set are produced in proof quality at the US Mint’s facility in San Francisco.
